For you attention there is a new article about an opportunity for accountant in Canada.

I also recommend you to review the article how BC Government cares about our health.

British Columbia Labour Market Information: Accountants

The demand for accountants is strong and will be 30% faster than the demand for all other occupations in Canada.

The number of factors is driving this growth:

  • New taxation regulations and accountability measures created more complex financial reporting environment.
  • Increasing amount of new small businesses, contracting out accounting services.

Accounting is a financially advantageous occupation being able to command a salary of 60, 000 to 80, 000 per year.

Despite that factor, the key consideration for individuals considering this career is to clearly decide if it is a career definitely for you. This occupation is very contradictory. Before making any decision go for the career counseling. Pay attention, if this job fits your goals, values and life style.

There are three distinct professional designations for accountants in Canada: certified management accountants (CMAs), certified general accountants (CGAs) and chartered accountants (CAs)/ Accountants may also be non-designated if they have not earned a professional designation. More detailed information about the differences between duties you can see at the following link: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2006/welcome.aspx).

The table below projects the growth for accountants between 2008 and 2013 and will equal 1.3%. It is important to note that this growth will be healthy, because it is only an illustration of the growth of new jobs and does not reflect new positions being created as a result of retirements.

Approximately 1,860 new positions will emerge in British Columbia over the next five years

Due to the Lower Mainland’s large population, the vast majority of these jobs will be created in this area.

Healthy Living Promotion

Vancouver Western Premiers agreed today to support the next phase of the Own The Podium program as an opportunity to build on the outstanding success of Canada’s athletes at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Provincial and territorial leaders at the Western Premiers’ Conference highlighted the success of the Own The Podium program in assisting Canada’s athletes but also as a motivator for Canadians of all ages to get active.

Western Premiers acknowledged active living and healthy lifestyles as an effective way to reduce burdens on our health care systems. For example, premiers called on the federal government to work with provinces and territories to reduce average sodium intake to 1,600 mg per day by 2016 to improve the health of Canadians.

Canadians consume more than twice the recommended intake of sodium for adults. Excess sodium is linked to 30 per cent of high blood pressure cases in Canada. Reducing sodium could prevent up to 23,500 cardiovascular events each year, and could generate billions of dollars in direct and indirect health care savings.

Pharmaceuticals

Western Premiers will continue to press for a purchasing plan for common pharmaceuticals. A recently-signed memorandum of understanding on pharmaceutical pricing and purchasing strategy will allow millions of dollars of savings to be directed toward patient care.

Western Premiers will also take steps to achieve savings through collaboration on bulk purchasing of health care supplies as well. It’s estimated that bulk purchasing could lead to savings of millions of dollars annually. For every $10 million saved provinces and territories could fund:
730 hip replacement surgeries, or;
400 open heart surgeries, or;
100 registered nurses’ salaries and benefits, or;
10 MRI machines.
